Why searching on your own often gets stuck

Every archive has its own search system.

Dutch city, regional and provincial archives, the National Archives and commercial websites: each one works differently, and none of them connect. And the records are in Dutch, often in old handwriting.

Other people's family trees often contain mistakes.

Much of it was typed in by hand, without a record to back it up. For us, anything without a source counts as not proven.

AI tools sometimes make up sources.

Archives warn about this themselves. We only show what we can point to in a record, register or newspaper, with a scan.

How it works

You know in advance what you get. The intake tells you, for each line, how far back we are likely to get.

1

Fill in the intake

Names, years and places of your grandparents. If you already have a family tree, upload the GEDCOM file. You see right away which package fits.

2

We do the research

We read civil records, registers, newspapers and graves. Every fact gets a label and a source, with the scan.

3

You get your own site

Tree, timeline, map and relationships, behind a PIN code. Your family can look at it too and answer questions.

Choose how far back we search

Each generation has twice as many ancestors as the one before. That is why the work, and the price, grows with every step back.

This is how it doubles: 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32 and 64 people per generation. The bars show how far back each package searches.

All prices are in euros and include 21% VAT. Do you want to go further back than 7 generations? Choose As far as possible, up to 12 generations. Further than 12: we make a quote. Lines outside the Netherlands are possible too; how far we get depends on what you can give us and which sources exist. You can always upgrade: you pay the difference with the next package.

A site your family can open

Not a closed booklet that nobody opens again. Your own site behind a PIN code, where your whole family can look and add what they know.

The example site is in Dutch, with a made-up family: Verhoeven. Everything in it is made up, including the civil record, the newspaper clipping and the prayer card.

A person page on the example site: date of birth and death, parents and wife, each with the label Zeker (certain).A person page: every fact has a label and a source.

What you can find

Three examples from the made-up Verhoeven family. This is what a story on your site looks like.

The flood of 1953

Leendert de Groot died on 1 February 1953 in Zierikzee. Four years later his sister married a textile worker from Tilburg, and that is how the family ended up in Brabant.

A hunch that stays unproven

Jan Mulder from Zaandam only appears in the tree of a distant cousin, without a source. On the site he gets the label "not proven", with a task: find his marriage.

An ancestor from before 1811

Hendrikus Verhoeven was born in 1808, before civil registration began. That is why he was found in the baptism register and not in a civil record. The site says so.

What we do not promise

In our own research, a third of 127 questions were solved, 40% partly and 27% not.

  • We promise the work, not the result. Not every line can be found.
  • We never show a guess as a fact.
  • Lines outside the Netherlands can take longer or end sooner.

Know in advance what to expect

In the intake, each grandparent line gets an expectation. So you choose a package that fits, and nothing comes as a surprise.

Good to doFull name, year and place of birth are known, and the country is the Netherlands or Belgium.
Probably not as farThe name is known, but the place or year is missing, or the surname is a common one.
Only what you provideToo little to start with. We include that line as you give it to us.

Frequently asked questions

Who can see my site?

Only people with the PIN code. You decide who gets it. We only show details of living people if you say that is okay.

I already have a family tree. What now?

Upload it as a GEDCOM file. Everything without a source gets the label not proven, until we see the record.

How long does it take?

From one week for Start to eight weeks for Family Tree. The exact time is listed with your package.

What happens if I stop?

Your site stays online until the end of the paid period. You get a message in advance and a zip with everything. After that we take it down.

Is my data mine?

Yes. Your photos and details stay yours. We do not use them for other trees without your permission.

In which language is my site?

You choose in the intake: Dutch or English. Both is possible for 100 euros extra. The chronicle and the menus of the site are then in that language.

Harry Stuurman

Who does the research

I am Harry Stuurman. I have done more than 25 in-depth family history studies and built a website of its own for each of them. My research runs from Leiden and Suriname to CuraƧao, Germany, Belgium and New Zealand.

Everything I find gets a label and a source. What is proven, I show with the record next to it. What is a suspicion, I call a suspicion. That way you and your family know exactly what you can build on.
